Children and Families Mental Health Residency Information
The Children and Families Mental Health Residency (CFMHR) with Twin Springs Counseling provides education and specialized training opportunities in mental health therapy for children, adolescents, and parents. The CFMHR focuses on the unique needs of young clients, including developmental considerations, family dynamics, and biopsychosocial-spiritual factors that may impact mental health. Residents receive direct experience providing therapy to children/adolescents/parents in clinical, community, and school-based settings, as well as opportunities for program development, continuing education, and collaboration in the field of children’s mental health. This program aims to enhance residents’ skills, knowledge, and provision of therapeutic interventions recommended for this vulnerable population. Successful residents will be prepared to run their own community-based mental health practice.
CFMH residents provide compassionate and effective therapeutic services to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Residents assess clients' needs, develop treatment plans, provide crisis care, collaborate with other professionals, maintain professional documentation, and conduct therapy sessions to promote emotional well-being and facilitate positive behavioral changes.
CFMH residents hold post-graduate licensure (LSW, LMFTA, LMHCS, etc.) as mental health practitioners. They engage in professional development to stay abreast of advancements in the field of mental health, participate in continuing education opportunities, pursue clinical licensure and certifications, and adhere to professional ethical codes and standards of practice.
Residents attend regular team meetings to engage with the clinical community, present and consult on clinical cases, and provide insight to other clinicians. Each resident receives weekly individual supervision toward clinical licensure.
